Timber Creek had 12 choir students advance past the second round of auditions for All-State choir over the Homecoming weekend. More than 40 of our students made it past round one and on to this second audition for Region which was hosted at Burleson High School. Each round of auditions take a fewer and fewer number of people and at this round only the top 14 chairs of each voice section advance.
Parker Davis, a freshmen who took first chair in the Tenor 1 section, explains how draining it was to get ready for this round.
“It took a lot of work. My voice was really tired. All-State camp was terrible for me but it helped me get ready” Davis explained. “And I had voice lessons and [would come] in after school, and practicing at home as my brother is yelling at me.”
As if auditions were not stressful enough, they also happen to take place the same week as Homecoming. Having had performed at the homecoming football game the night before, the choir students had to be on a bus to Burleson the next morning at 6 a.m. After results were posted at 5:45 that afternoon, there was not much time to celebrate as many rushed back to the school in time for the homecoming dance which started at 7 p.m that same night.
The singers who qualified are now apart of the Region mixed choir which is a group of some of the best high school choir students in the north Texas area. They will be performing all together on Nov. 11 at Weatherford High School to showcased their talents.
Choir student who advanced will now begin to prepare for the next round, Pre-Area which will be held on Nov. 9 at the First United Methodist Church in Weatherford. Only the top 5 chairs will make it passed this next round which will be more challenging than the two prior but will hopefully lead to a spot in the All-State choir.
