The Timber Creek Varsity Football team is looking to push new limits this year with a championship run. The Timber Creek 2021 Varsity football roster embodies everything in camaraderie. Albeit the season has just started, this group has a mindset parallel to that of a championship hoisting team. Assistant Lineman Coach Blake Thurman, put it perfectly.

“Love, love, love your teammates, love your brothers, love each other, and that will get us through anything,” Thurman said.

In Head Coach Marshall Williams’ second season, and (barring any COVID-19 cancellations), first full season leading the boys in purple and gold, the program looks to establish a culture of dominance. The only way to truly excel at something, is to truly love it. The entire coaching staff is unparalleled in their love of the game.

“Coach Williams preaches ‘never better,'” said Thurman. “Every day you have to get better, and every day you are going to give it your all. Absolutely.”

Having coached for years before his arrival at Timber Creek, it’s safe to say Head Coach Marshall Williams brings a culture and atmosphere to the field house unlike anything Timber Creek has ever seen.

“Just the passion [the coaches] have, the excitement they have every day in practice, just flying around and getting more excited than the kids” said Thurman.

Reigning at the helm, Senior quarterback Jacob Porter brings energy and leadership to this team in a unique way.

“The biggest thing I want to get out of this year, is I want us to change the culture of TC Football forever,” Porter said. “I want the excitement for a TC football team to carry weight year in and year out.”

Fans who have watched Porter’s game over the last few years will know that the steady-footed senior continues to impress fans with highly intelligent pocket presence. Embodying a true “gunslinger” quarterback, Porter uses his intelligence to know when to get rid of the pigskin.

Porter leads by example both on and off the field, as he says in regards to adversity on the field

“That’s been one of the main goals of the entire off-season, handling adversity as it comes our way,” said Porter. “For sure, you are guaranteed to face plenty of it throughout a season. The biggest thing we’re looking to do is to commit to the idea that we’re a part of something way bigger than ourselves. To be able to lean on the coaching staff and our teammates, and knowing when adversity hits you’re not doing it for yourself, you’re doing it for them… that is what is really going to help us weather the trials and tribulations of the season. “

Although the star under center is an eye grabber, the rest of this roster is not one to be forgotten.

“We got a lot of playmakers this year on both sides of the ball that are going to be doing some fantastic things,” said Coach Thurman.

Many words could be used to describe this team; however, one stands out when describing this roster: TEAM.

Be on the lookout this year, through highly intelligent defensive backs, fearless linemen, and an explosive offense, this team has everything needed to be a championship roster.
