Part 2: Finals

As mentioned, Final Exams are on Tuesday, May 25 through Thursday, May 27, 2021. Once again, students may be exempt from finals if they meet grade and behavior requirements.

2020-2021 Semester Exam Exemption Regulations:

Students in grades 9-12 who meet grade and behavior requirements are eligible for semester exam exemption.

Students in grades 9-12 must meet all of the following criteria in order to be exempt from the semester exam:

  • Have an 85 average in the course.
  • Have no ISS, OSS, or DAEP assigned days.

CTE Courses:

  • Industry based certification tests may be used in CTE courses to substitute the final exam grade.

Courses not eligible for exemption:

  • Courses that require a capstone assessment, project, portfolio, performance or performance evaluation as a final.
  • Dual Credit Courses

Notification of eligibility for exemptions:

  • Exemptions will be determined no later than the Monday of the week of final exams.
  • Teachers will notify students of their exemption eligibility.

Students who are exempt and choose to take the final exam will not be penalized for any final exam grade that will lower their semester average. Please direct all questions regarding this administrative regulation to the building principal.

Please note that students may not take semester exams early. If a student is absent and not exempt from taking an exam, they will receive a zero and can make up the exam in early June through the Counseling Department.

Semester Exam Information:

  • If exempt, students do not have to attend the specific class period when the semester exam is given. Exempt students may come and go on exam days, based on which exams they need to take. If a student does not have transportation, they will attend exempt classes and prepare for other semester exams.
  • Students will be marked absent if they choose not to attend classes due to an exemption. However, for these exempt students during this school year, these absences will not impact them in any way.
  • Students will attend KCAL and/or classes at other campuses on all days this week.
  • Remote students will take their semester exams in a remote format as given by their teacher.
  • All students must be present for all class periods throughout the week. The only exception is for those students who are exempt, and they do not have to attend the specific class period when the semester exam is given.

Students will not be allowed to congregate on campus or wait outside. If they are not off campus by the time the tardy bell rings, administrators will assist them in reporting to class.

For questions regarding exemptions, students need to first visit with their teachers. If there are further questions, please contact your student’s Assistant Principal.

Part 3: Pick Up and Drop Off

There’s MANY things to bring back to school or pick up from school, including textbooks, library books, technology and more. Here’s a list of things you might need to bring back or pick up:

  1. Textbook collection is scheduled with your subject teacher. If you have a physics textbook, your physics teacher will let you know which day/time to bring your textbook back. However, collection runs from May 17 to May 21, so that gives you an idea of when to bring them.
  2. Seniors will need to turn in their Keller ISD issued Chromebooks and internet hotspots to their English teacher on Tuesday, May 18 and/or Wednesday, May 19.
  3. 9th to 11th graders will turn in their hotspots only on May 18 or May 19 to English teachers. Underclassman will, by default, keep their Chromebook over the summer. If there’s a reason why you’d like to NOT keep it over the summer, there’s a link in your e-mail on how to do that.
  4. Still need to pick up your Yearbook? Head to the Counseling office. You don’t need your QR code.
  5. For graduation item pickup questions, try this page: EYNTKA Graduation

Part 4: End of Year Rules

With the end of the year, there are some rules that go into place after May 21. Here’s what they are and what happens if you don’t follow them.

  1. No backpacks, athletics bags, or duffle bags will be allowed on campus after May 21st.
  2. No lockers will be available for usage after May 21st.
  3. All in-person graduating seniors and in-person students not returning in the fall will return their technology devices during the school day this week. Graduating seniors may also return their devices during the Senior Meeting on Thursday, May 27th from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Large Gym or during the Senior Packet Pick-Up Event on Thursday, May 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Seniors who are remote will be able to return their devices at the Senior Meeting or at the Senior Packet Pick-Up Event. More details will be coming soon along with a traffic flow map. Remote graduating seniors and remote students not returning in the fall may return their technology devices during the week of May 17th or the week of May 24th to the TCHS North or South Office.
  4. There will be opportunities for in-person students to turn in their textbooks during the school day this week. In-person and remote students may also turn textbooks in to the TCHS North or South Office until May 28th. Textbooks may  be dropped off during the Senior Packet Pick-Up Event on Thursday, May 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. as well.
  5. Extra personnel have been assigned to each campus, including 24-hour security.
  6. Students must continue to leave the building immediately at 4:00 p.m. There will be limited scheduled after-school activities on campuses after 4:00 p.m.

Students who disrupt the learning environment will be subject to suspension and further disciplinary action per the Keller ISD Student Code of Conduct. Seniors who involve themselves in such disruptions will also be suspended from walking in the commencement ceremony, according to Policy FMH Local. For students who are not seniors, involvement in disruption of the learning environment may be punishable up to and including DAEP placement for 60 days to include next school year.
