Stacey Yvonne Abrams is a democratic politician, author, voting rights activist and lawyer. Abrams served in the Georgia House of Representatives for 11 years and a Democratic Leader for seven. Abrams has also been nominated for a 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for her work in promoting nonviolent voting changes.

Back in 2018, Abrams was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Georgia, making her the first black woman to be the gubernatorial nominee for a major party in the United States. After losing the race to Republican Brian Kemp, Abrams noticed there was a mismanagement by the Secretary of State’s office. Since then she has founded multiple organizations dedicated to voting rights and taking on social justice issues on a state and national level.

Shortly after the election, Abrams founded Fair Fight Action, an organization to address the voter suppression and make elections more equitable in Georgia and Texas. Her organization focused on increasing voter turnout and making sure the votes are accurately counted.

With Fair Fight 2020, Abrams was able to increase the number of voters in not just Georgia, but 20 other states in the 2020 presidential election. Many have credited Abrams with turning Georgia and other crucial states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania into a blue state.

Fair Fight Action has also raised $6 million to support Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the Georgia Senate Runoff election that took place Jan 5, 2021. Warnock and Ossoff both won flipping the Senate to Democratic.

As of now, Abrams is one of the most influential politicians of America as she has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and is expected to run for Georgia Governor again in 2022, but in the meantime she will continue pushing for more voter reform and publish her newest novel, While Justice Sleeps, set to release May 2021.
