Raphael Warnock is now the first black Democratic senator representing the former Confederate state of Georgia.. He also became the 11th African American to serve the US Senate.

Warnock began his career as a senior pastor. He pursued the political path in order to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

In response to his victory, he described it as “stunning” and claimed that “in America anything is possible.”

During his campaign, a large number of black voters in Atlanta helped him beat his component Kelly Loeffler. He and many other black activists were able to turn Georgia into a blue state this past presidential election.

Warnock was born and raised in Georgia and is proud to represent his state.

“I stand before you as a man who knows that the improbable journey that led me to this place in this historic moment in America could only happen here,” he later spoke.
