On Dec. 8, Martin Kenyon, a 91-year-old British man, gained popularity after being interviewed by CNN reporter, Cyril Vanier outside the Guy’s Hospital regarding his first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech (COVID-19) vaccine.
“I hope I am not going to have the bloody bug now,” Kenyon said. “I don’t intend to have [the virus] because I’ve got granddaughter’s and I want to live a long time to enjoy their lives. There’s no point in dying now when I’ve lived this long.”
CNN asked Martin how he felt about the vaccine and in which he responded, “I don’t think I think anything about it. It didn’t hurt at all.”
Martin’s first vaccine was Dec. 8, and he had another appointment already scheduled to receive the second and final dose of the vaccine. The vaccine started taking effect for Martin quickly considering the two week and 10 day waiting period in order for his system to react.
CNN has since followed up with Martin.
“It’s quite ridiculous that I’m still getting all this attention, I mean, I got it ages ago,” He said.
He added that is he feeling great, and he looks forward to hugging his granddaughters.
Kenyon’s kind, witty, and blunt nature was a definite breath of fresh air during the current climate of the world. Hopefully Kenyon’s vaccine and interview experience can provide a source of hope and laughter for the rest of the world doing this pandemic.
