With the rise of COVID-19, many school activities and events have been cancelled or postponed. Falcon Theatre’s one-act play is one of those events. This year’s competition one-act play, “Death of a Salesman,” was set to compete at the district level of competition on Friday, March 20, however, due to the school closure, was unable to compete.

The University Interscholastic League (UIL), the organization that many school competitions are run under, has suspended all contests, rehearsals, and practices until further notice. According to UIL’s press release, the earliest that games and contests could resume is Monday, May 4.

“We are simply on stand-by until further word from UIL,” director Lance Morse commented on the status of the one-act play.

The company of the show auditioned in early December of 2019 and has been working on the show since they returned from winter break. They have rehearsed most weekdays until 6:30 p.m. and have been to multiple clinics.

“We have all put in so much effort into creating a new beautiful version of a classic story,” actor Delaney Ross said. “I hope that we get to share that story with others.”

The fate of this show is still up in the air until UIL makes further decisions on their response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Believe me when I say I feel the pain in this lackluster news,” Morse said. “However, no matter what decisions are made, I know that Falcon Theatre will represent well, and continue to tell our story with determination and grace.”
