On Thursday, Nov. 21 the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) held their annual fall blood drive in conjunction with Carter BloodCare in the small gym. Over 119 students registered to donate blood, 80 of them being first time donors.

Out of the 119, only 101 were able to donate, as 18 students were deferred or not able to donate at the time. Nevertheless, the impact these students made was significant in the aspect of saving lives.

As a result of everyone’s donations, students will be able to save as many as 303 lives.

To have donated in the fall blood drive, students were required to be at least 16 years old and weigh 110 lbs. Those 17 and under were required to fill out a parental consent form. Photo ID was required for all donors.

Additionally, seniors who donate two times over the course of their senior year can earn a blood drive cord. This cord is commonly referred to as the ‘red cord’ and can be worn by seniors at the graduation ceremony.
