Central High School will be hosting a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) night on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. in their lecture hall.

HBCU alumni will be there to answer any questions students and families may have, whether it be about how to apply, their experience at the university, or sorority and fraternity life at their alma maters.

The event is open for any and all KISD students and families to attend. In fact, Intervention Counselor, Francine Lalande, encourages Timber Creek students to attend, not only for information about HBCU’s in general, but also for a chance to gain knowledge and broaden one’s horizons when it comes to applying for a post-secondary education.

“I think it’s a good idea for students to go to give them some historical perspective about the growth of colleges and universities. It opens up a [different] world because I feel like sometimes our students only see [Texas Tech] and [The University of Texas] and the schools that are really close to here,” Lalande said. “It allows them to hone in on these historically black [schools] and how they came to be.”
