It’s been a long wait since the shocking separation of Disney and Sony in terms of a deal involving the famous web-slinger, Spider-Man. After originally having thought the two companies could not find an agreement on any sort of compromise, the fans have received the best possible outcome: Spider-Man will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a result of Disney and Sony’s collaboration.

But it’s not only the fans who are excited, but the man behind the mask, Tom Holland. The actor is reportedly one of the reasons Sony and Disney were able to come to an agreement.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, revealed how Holland came into contact with him. After Holland’s appearance at the D23 Expo (An event held by the Disney Fan Club), he asked a few of Iger’s employee’s for his contact info.

Iger agreed to meet with Holland and when contacted over the phone, Iger explained that Holland had made a compelling case for the return of Spider-Man.

“…I actually felt for him, and it was clear that the fans wanted this to happen,” Iger said.

Iger chose to contact not only the crew at Disney’s Marvel Branch, but the CEO of Sony. “‘We gotta figure out a way to get this done,” Iger had told them. “And we did. That’s how it happened.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, also commented on the issue. In it he expressed his excitement on the news of a deal. Currently, there is speculation as to whether Holland will also be portrayed as Spider-Man in the SMU (Sony’s Marvel Universe), however nothing on the matter has been confirmed.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” Feige said. “He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

Whether or not the ‘Wall-Crawler’ is to be in filmed in one universe or a multitude is exciting to the fans, despite that it was not their initial concern. People across the globe simply feel better knowing that their “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is back, and here to stay.
