Timber Creek is looking for students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) Ready Writing. Ready Writing is a writing event in which students are given two hours to write an expository essay. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Jan. 9.
“It is a great opportunity to flex one’s writing muscles, and makes a nice addition to a college resume,” said English teacher, Taylor Romero.
The students have a choice between two prompts, each an excerpt from literature, publications or speeches. Expository writing explains, proves, or explores a topic in a balanced way, allowing the argument and the evidence given to be the deciding factor in the paper. The composition is judged 60% on interest, 30% on organization, and 10% on correctness of style.
