Falcons walk the same halls on different paths every day, yet are bound by a sense of community. Within these walls are students and faculty who come from all walks of life. In a campus of over 3,000 students, Timber Creek thrives on diversity. To bring these busybodies together, Falcon Friends was created. It is a club of volunteer students that enjoy being friends and helpers of students that have differences.

Working alongside students each day is Karen Rumer, a Falcon Friends advisor.

“This program benefits everyone involved. It can be the most rewarding organization a student can enter into. It develops friendships and helps our students with social skills,” Rumer said. “It gives our general population a better awareness of disabilities and how to interact with people with differences.”

If students are interested, they are encouraged to attend the informational meeting to become a member of Falcon Friends. It will be on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 4:00 p.m. in room N114. If you cannot make the meeting, contact Rumer or Lance Diamond. Moreover, there will be no application process in order to give everyone a chance to be a part of this club. It will be further discussed in the meeting, however, as of now, there is also no fee to join.

Throughout the year, the Falcon Friends will be arranging for upcoming events, such as the homecoming parade, fundraisers, gatherings, and more. Members will also plan for the Special Education Prom that will be held on the Timber Creek campus during the 2019-2020 school year.

“This club means the world to me. As being an active participant in similar clubs, to this growing up, to teaching these kids today, I see the benefits to all involved,” Rumer said. “It is fun to see who actually benefits the most when interacting with these kids, the peers or my students. There is so much kindness, excitement, and joy from all participants involved.”
