The fifth year that the team has advanced into playoffs, the Timber Creek Varsity Softball team swung out of the competition hitting hard and with goals reached. While the team did start out with a loss, the athletes however did not let the defeat kill their season’s goals, finishing the season not only making it to the Area Round of the 6A playoffs, but also beating Keller High School. Securing ten wins within the district play and second place going into playoffs, losing in game three to Permian High School, 7-1.

This season has been exciting and challenging,” said junior Natalie Sorensen. “Our [game against Keller High School] really showed our determination and fight. we have been working hard for this moment and we have come together as a team so we know we have the potential to go far.”

Having played in the Permian Area with their last neutral game on May 5, at 10 a.m. at Wells Field at Abilene Christian University. With Permian leading even in the bottom of the first 4-0, the softball athletes didn’t let their sights down, having previous beaten the state-ranked team 8-2 the day before.

“Our last game was a tough loss,” said Sorensen. “Although we lost, we know we gave everything we had this season. A lot of people doubted us, but we knew our potential and we all pushed each other to be the best we could be.”

Taking a tough blow from last year, which saw seven seniors graduate, the young team is working together to form a new, stronger bond to tackle the season with. Unique in the way that they depend on the success of multiple individuals in order to be successful, team sports rely on not just athleticism but also teamwork and sportsmanship.

“Every game we grow closer to each other and work more as a team. we never give up and always push through even when we face adversity,” said Sorensen. “We have continued to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones. It will be hard to say goodbye to the seniors because they have been amazing leaders this year.”
