Bianca Rosales, a junior at Timber Creek High School, has led the Girls Varsity Wrestling program to higher heights. Not only have they exceeded expectations, but they’ve now created a competitive atmosphere for their team.

With the stakes high for the athletes in January of their season, they came out champions back-to-back in the CFISD invitational in Houston and then again at the Euless Trinity High School Trojan Classic on Jan. 5, and Jan. 6. Having been the champion in both pre-state tournaments walking away with two first place trophies, Rosales also recently led the Falcons to a dominating 54-0 victory over Southlake Carroll at their dual meet on Jan. 25.

“The season so far is great, I’ve gotten to improve a lot more than last year,” said Rosales. “My success this season has come from practicing a lot, not just in school but during the summer too. Also having good competition in the mat room.”

With the school currently ranked second in their region and sixth in state, it has been an inspiring season for Rosales, with the struggles of competing against higher level competition, she has still been able to dominate each match. She was recently named number eight in the USA at 180 pounds.

“Being ranked eighth nationally doesn’t really matter to me because once I get out there to compete again it’s going to change,” Rosales justified. “The game plan is just doing my best in each match because it’s always gonna be different.”

With district games coming up, and a hard fought season getting closer to playoffs, Rosales has prepared her team for the possibility of competing in state, a chance that not a lot of juniors in high school get the opportunity to do. These athletes know it’s going to be a tough road to get there, but the competitive atmosphere that was brought to the the wrestling team by Rosales has been put into fruition.

“An obstacle I’ve had to overcome this season is pushing through mentally,” said Rosales. “Having to start from zero again and build up to my goal, which is to win state.”
