Timber Creek is hosting the sixth annual Rex King Memorial Cup, a soccer tournament in honor of the late Rex King. Rex is father to the Head Coach of Ladies’ Soccer, Mike King.

The tournament is not only a way to honor Rex King, but also to aid other families that may be going through a battle with sickness as well. With the tournament being held Jan. 4 through Jan. 6, the event will help raise funds for Community Hospice of Texas, (CHOT).

“It was my idea to start the drive for CHOT,” said King. “My father helped start the Hurst United Soccer Association, and he was a big part of [mine and my sister’s] soccer season. When he passed, it was sudden…they took excellent care of my dad, and I just wanted to find a way to repay them.”

All schools in the district will be participating but there will also be a few schools from the area as well, such as Byron Nelson. JV games will be held here at Timber Creek, while half the varsity games will be held here at TCHS. The other half at will be held at Fossil Ridge. Both schools will include both women’s and men’s games. Raising over $50,000 in the past five years, all donations will go to CHOT.

“The fundraiser helps families who can’t afford to support their dying relatives,” King said. “They don’t ask how the families are going to pay for treatment, they just take care of them.”
