On Sept. 30, the band competed in Bands Of America (BOA) Southlake, advancing to finals for the first time in school history.

BOA is known to be one of the most rigorous band competitions across the country as some of the top-ranked bands in the nation take part in this contest. This will be the third year that the Timber Creek Marching Band competes at BOA. In 2015, the band placed 23, being 13 spots away from finals. The group’s scores showed tremendous improvement as they placed tenth this year, eligible of making finals for the first time.

“When the drum majors were standing on the field, and we heard our name called, we all celebrated, and it felt great to achieve such a great breakthrough,” said Drum Major Lauren Mrachek.

Their second competition of the season was the HEB (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) Contest. In prelims, the band placed second in the 6A class, receiving captions for having the best percussion and color-guard. The top ten-scoring bands, regardless of class, advance to the finals competition. Timber Creek placed seventh overall.

“This competition was an excellent motivator for the band to continue to strive for success and showcase the talents of the Timber Creek Band,” said piccolo player Erin Obregon.

The band’s performances from these competitions were able to project their name at a higher level, and they’ve become a highly anticipated group to watch out for.

On Oct. 14, they will be driving all the way to Midland for another BOA. After this contest, they will compete in three other competitions, with one being held in San Antonio. These performances are different from the usual halftime shows. It’s encouraged to go to at least one contest to witness how the band competes.
