New to Timber Creek, this improving sport emerges and blindsides fellow competitors with their growing skills and domination of the competition.

The Timber Creek Rugby team, coached by Shon Husband, and assisted by Chris Morrison and Kevin Buckly is a new addition to TC’s athletic department this year. A team that started with 20 members, now has between 30-35 players, and is dominating their competition.

“I’ve been playing rugby for 2 years now. I’ve always grown up knowing the sport was part of my heritage. Our goal is to grow together as a team and in doing so, beat every team we face with most intensity we have to offer,” said Josh Foster.

When the team was first put together by Foster, they lacked a coach. Erica Jones, Foster’s mom, worked with contacts of different people they were given from their previous team’s management which began the process of starting a team at TC. Coach Husband had been refereeing in Texas for a long time and knows the game extremely well.

“It was easy for me to fall in love with the sport because of the brotherhood, high intensity, and love for rugby culture. I had watched my older brother play rugby for 4 years and always admired his talent and ambition so I decided to give it a shot,” said Brady Jackson

Because they are a first year team, they are classified as a DII team, but they hope to be a DI team and compete against teams that have been together for longer. To become a DI team, the Texas Rugby Union decides based on the team’s record during the season, as well as the future of the team with the coaching and players.

“We all bond really well because each individual works hard to better their teammates,” said Foster. “Ultimately, it’s really just one big brotherhood.”
