On Feb. 25, 2017 the Timber Creek High School Art Department took their art to Hebron High School to compete in the regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). At the region competition, artists will qualify their art piece to see if they meet the strict rules on what the artists can and cannot do.

Artists must also go through an interview process to discuss the meaning of the piece and how they made it. The artists are judged on a rating from one to four. Depending on how many years of art classes an artist has taken, they are placed into a division from one to four: division one only being one year of art taken and division four being four years of art or being in an Advance Placement art class.

The art pieces that got a four were displayed in Hebron’s gym. Students then walked around the gym to see if their art received a four. Once all the interviews are done and all of the pieces that got fours, jurors come in and pick the top 10% of the fours that will advance to the State competition.

“I participated in the competition to push myself to create visually appealing artwork in hopes to advance and receive state recognition,” student artist Jake Howard said. “Art displays my creativity levels, so being able to participate in events like VASE challenge me and make me want to be a better artist. The level of difficulty for the art varies upon the division you are placed in. VASE makes everyone a better artist.”

Congratulations to all of the artists that competed in the VASE competition and the following artists that are advancing to State!
