The Timber Creek Bowling Team made a great reappearance this year after their win as first in the district during their 2015 season. Their undefeated 2015-16 season was a vital success for the growing team.

The bowlers are still holding tryouts after school on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, at Brunswick Zone, in Watauga. Tryouts need to be set up with Coach Kevin Sheets at (260)-241-7150, or junior bowler, Bryce Sheets. The cost is $15 and the student needs to bowl six games.

The bowling team has gained increasing recognition this year by word of mouth and team members encouraging students to join bowling.

The team practices every Monday, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and four of the members; Kaitlyn Fleming, Bryce Sheets, Kobe Nelson, and Austin Vanhuesen, even participate in a bowling league at a bowling center on their own time for extra practice. Their coaches, Paul Fleming and Kevin Sheets, each give the teams lots of support and encouragement during competitions and practice.

“At competitions we really work together to bring each other up even after a bad throw. We really try to learn from each others mistakes.” said Sheets.

Despite being the only girl on the team, Kaitlyn Fleming expresses that, “Being the only girl on the team is rarely a problem, the team makes me feel like I belong.”

Bowling is not just about rolling the ball to knock down some pins. It requires conditioning and endurance training for the legs. Not only does it require conditioning it also requires immense concentration and focus, since the sport is based on your skill set. Many aspects go into bowling such as the; conditioner of the lane, the distance of the pins, or the types of approach.

“Although bowling is a simple concept,” said Coach Fleming, “Bowling has a difficult application to be able to perform consistently at a high level.”
