As a student, you go through the long days, coming home with hours of homework each night. You may be wondering how in the world you can get it all done, and still get a decent amount of sleep at night.

Homework seems to be a never ending process, and is overwhelming to all of us. However, it is an essential part of our high school career, and it needs to be taken seriously in order for us to succeed. Therefore, studying diligently is an important tool that all students should possess in order to be successful and keep the stress at a low level.

Everyone has different ways of studying, but here are a few that you may find helpful to add to your homework routine:

  • Purchase a planner and write down all assignments with due dates, tests, and quizzes. It is also a good idea to record when you will complete each task, and to check it off when it is finished.
  • When you get home, take a look at your planner and priortize the order in which you should complete your homework. If you are working on a big project, make sure to break it down into smaller tasks and space it out over a period of time.
  • Consider recording any extra-curricular activities into your planner as well, to help you determine when it is best to complete which homework.
  • Set aside a time each day where you will complete your tasks, and use that time each afternoon to complete it. When finished, it is a good idea to check and review all of your work. For anything not completed, be sure to record that in your planner and move it to another date.
  • When studying, make sure to space it out. After each assignment, consider taking a brain break. Reward yourself with a snack or five minutes on social media. Working towards a goal will keep you motivated and determined to get your work done.
  • If studying for a test, consider rewriting important notes, and taking practice tests. Writing things down is proven to help you remember them, and taking a practice test will help you learn from your mistakes and help you remember specific information for the test.
  • Experiment different techniques to find out what works best for you, and stick with it! What works for one person may not work for another, so don’t be afraid to try something outside of the box.

“I really like to use my planner, because it helps me know when something is due and how to manage my time.” Timber Creek Sophomore, Katelin Tran said. “It also helps me remember what homework that I have to do each night.”
