TCTV has a brand new cast this year and along with them comes a brand new set. Greg Janda, the Journalism teacher won an award called Innovative Teacher or IT’s award, that gave him a grant in Nov. 2015. The grant was for over $300 and all the money was put toward the new TCTV set. Janda quickly went to talk to the technical theatre class about making the new set. The original goal was to have the set done by Dec. of 2015, however many obstacles postponed the project.

“It took us a very long time to get the supplies, get the people and get the time to do it since we weren’t in [the TCTV room].” Janda says.

Technical theater made an assignment out of the project and all the students came up with ideas on how to make TCTV look even better than before. The goal was to pick the best and cost efficient design for the 2016-17 set. The design chosen was made by Jack Gray, a junior at Timber Creek, and Jacob Lund, who graduated in 2016.

Janda bought the supplies needed for the set at the beginning of the school year and construction began in the third week.

Kodi Dugan, a senior who helped put the set together said, “We had an original plan…basically as we’ve been building it, we’ve changed it to accommodate what [Janda] wants.”

Janda and technical theatre picked out the specific colors they were going to need for the specific look that was envisioned for the TCTV set.

Gray who helped create the project says that the theme was “purple and gold for [the school], with a dark gray top just to contrast the light better.”

Once the design was chosen and the materials were bought, the set took about a week to make. Once that was done, five students came up to the TCTV room on Sept. 27 and finished building and tweaked a few things to make the new set look amazing.

Chris Rendina, Blake Cooper and Rick Escutia along with Gray and Dugan helped fix up the set.

“They focused the lights and helped us construct…not only making sure the anchor desk was great, but also helping us light two other portions that we’ll use to produce TCTV.” Janda explained.

There were problems along the way as Escutia and Cooper fixed the lights for the set. There was a broken lens in one of the lights, but Cooper and Escutia made do. Gray and Rendina worked on the back drop for TCTV. They used brushes dipped in gold paint, and flicked the spots onto the wood that was already painted purple.

The set took a while to make, but finally came together after a year of planning. It will be seen on TCTV starting Sept. 29.
