Recognizing the softball team’s five District championships, nine Bi-district appearances, seven Area appearances, two Regional Finals appearances and two back to back State championships, it’s no surprise that coach Laura Moore was inducted into the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 20.
Moore attended Baylor University originally on a volleyball scholarship but was still able to letter in softball. Before coaching here, she also worked at North Ridge Middle School, Crowley High School, and Fossil Ridge.
“Timber Creek is unique because I had the opportunity to start and build this program,” Moore says. “…we still have all the original coaches that opened Timber Creek…I think that says a lot about our athletic department. We truly are a family.”
Besides her initiation to the HEB Sports Hall of Fame, Moore was also entitled Texas Sport Writers Association Coach of the Year and Regional Coach of the Year twice, District Coach of the Year four times, and was inducted into the Crowley Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. She was considered as an All-Star Coach by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and the Amateur Softball Association.
Moore says a lot of hard work and dedication from everyone involved is how she is able to receive all this recognition.
“My name may be on the awards, but it took a lot of people to make it happen,” she says. “I’ve been blessed with some great coaching staffs and very gifted and talented athletes.”
Avery Grimes, a senior on the varsity softball team, shares how Moore pushes each individual player to be their absolute best at every single practice.
“She never lets anyone give up on themselves or the team as a whole,” Grimes says.
The team is confident that this will aid in them having a great season.
“This year, we’ve come together as a team,” says JV player Lauren Robin. “And because of that, we’re not afraid to help each other improve.”
Moore believes that the team is to control their own destiny.
“The key in a team sport is everyone has to put their own personal agendas aside and work as one,” says Moore. “If everyone stays committed to the team, then our team goals are very attainable, and it will make for an exciting 2016 softball season.”
