english eoc 2016 talon

Updated: March 30 with more details.

English End of Course (STAAR) testing will be held on Tuesday, March 29 and Thursday, March 31, 2016. However, there’s a twist to the schedule for those not testing — they have a regular school day.

Students in English I will take their exam on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. English II students will take their exam on Thursday, March 31.

“At this time, we are planning to have a regular school day in conjunction with administering the 5-hour English EOC assessments,” Assistant Principal Miguel Garza said.

All non-testing students would be required to follow their standard B Day class schedule.

Timber Creek will have approximately 1700 students taking the tests over the two days, according to Garza. The administration currently plans to have teachers of the subjects tested (English I and II) to be the proctors of the EOC tests.

Rooms in the South and Main hallways are currently planned for use during the testing days — both the first and second floors of S Hall, plus M 217 through M 236.

Classes whose rooms are being used will be relocated to different classrooms, including both gymnasiums and the FAC. Due to the amount of classes being used there is a possibility that there will be multiple classes going on in the gyms and FAC.

The schedule and locations for relocation of classes is posted below. Students that would normally attend classes in South Hall or M 217 through M 236 should check this list to see where their class will be held on March 29 and 31.

English EOC exams are five hour tests with a 30 lunch break available in the testing window. Administrators originally mentioned the release time for testing centers would be around 2:30 p.m., however the March 29 EOC tests did not release from their rooms until the end of school. Students will be dismissed from their testing rooms via an announcement and continue to their 5th period class, if possible.

Once a student completes a test, they basically just have to wait in the testing center.

“Our students are not allowed to have books or magazines in their possession or underneath their desk before, during or after their testing has been completed,” administrators reminded TCHS teachers on March 30. The e-mail noted that this is a district-wide policy.

EOC testers are encouraged to bring a lunch with them to the testing center.
