Instead of piling up candy during Halloween, the Timber Creek Marching Band went to compete in US Bands Midlothian last Saturday, ending their competition season by getting second place in finals and bagging the title of “Best in Percussion.”

“We all realized it was our last competition, so we put in everything we had,” cymbal player Rebecca Brewer said.

Although the rain showers that morning ceased the band from having their last rehearsal for the show, it didn’t stop the group from having what most of them consider as their best performance of the season.

“Everything that we had worked on throughout August, September, and October came down to this final show,” said quad player BreAnn Barker.

Besides being the last time the band will ever perform their varsity show, this was also the seniors’ last hurrah, making the contest a sentimental one.

“When I was crying, I couldn’t stop crying because I was thinking of the great times I’ve had over four years and how its over, but it’s been a lot of fun,” said senior mellophone player Brelee McClelland.

It was emotional for the rest of the members as well.

“Stepping onto the field for the last time with the seniors who had performed with me since freshman year was bittersweet,” Barker said. “Knowing that was it, I felt I had to give it my all for them…All the hard work paid off when we received ‘Best in Percussion’, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished as a family.”
