Join HOSA to “Kick Smoking in the Butt” during the Great American Smoke Out.

The Great American Smoke Out is a nationwide event sponsored by the American Cancer Society that occurs every November. The purpose is to make the commitment not to or to quit smoking.

This year, the theme will be aforementioned “Kick Smoking in the Butt,” so join HOSA on Thursday, Nov. 19 by wearing your boots to give smoking the boot.

On this date, HOSA will be passing out cut-out boots with four different facts about smoking;

  • Smoking is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the US.
  • Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for men and women.
  • More than half of people with lung cancer die within one year of being diagnosed.
  • Nonsmokers have 20 to 30-percent greater chance of developing lung cancer if they are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work.

Collect all four facts and students will receive a prize. Prizes can be picked up in room N208, while supplies lasts.
