Timber Creek varsity wrestling took over districts last week on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Varsity girls had 10 girls finish in first place in their respective weight classes, being the first time in Keller ISD history that 10 girls from the same team all made the semi-finals in one season. They had four more finish in second place, finishing with 180 total team points to end their dominating performances at districts.

Likewise, the varsity boys also did very well at districts. They finished in third place overall as a team with most of their wrestlers finishing in the top three rankings. Boys varsity was previously ranked eighth in their region. Junior varsity boys finished as District Champions at their tournament last Thursday, Feb. 8.

With all the wrestlers shooting for the stars as they fight for a chance to play for a State Championship, Timber Creek wrestling head coach, Jayson Conger have prepared each wrestler to battle on the mat as an individual, while still remembering to lead the team to success.

“Wrestling was never intended to be a team sport,” said Conger. “I always say that it is an individual sport with a team element. If each individual wrestler does their job, win. Then the team will find success. That has been what is occurring this season. You may not always be the stronger wrestler, but you can be more technical or smarter.”

The teams will wrestle at their Regional Tournament at the Thomas Coliseum on Friday Feb. 16, and Saturday Feb. 17 at 8:00 a.m.
