Both of Timber Creek’s winterguards brought home superior ratings and special awards at a regional competition on Feb. 17, 2018.

Varsity and JV winterguards competed at the MA regional at Grapevine High School and scored high enough to be rated superior in all captions.

“It was a huge event and a very enjoyable experience for all of the students,” Winterguard director Lara Rogers said in an e-mail.

“It felt very rewarding because we had just learned a whole bunch of new material and a lot of us were worried we wouldn’t be able to pull it off,” Senior winterguard member Logan Yancy said.

Those fears were squashed when the members brought home awards in choreography and earned overall superior ratings in their competitive classes, according to Rogers.

This is the first year the Timber Creek Winterguard has expanded to two teams. Yancy attributes the growth in members and in skill level to a new emphasis on excellence.

“We have a completely new guard staff this year, and our directors have pushed us super hard to achieve a new level of excellence that we’ve never reached before,” Yancy said.
