After two months of preparation, the Timber Creek JV Winter Guard began their competitive season at a North Texas Color Guard Association tournament at Martin high school with a first place victory.

Out of a total of 16 teams participating in the tournament, first place is just one of the many victories winter guard plans to have this season.

“Finishing the show is our first priority, before the next competition,” said head winter guard instructor, Lara Rogers.

There are no scores for individual winter guard members, it is solely team based. The teams are judged on equipment, choreography, staging, and the effect on the audience. There are also different class captions.

“We just heard that we had made the next caption class after the competition at Martin high.” Rogers said. “We’ve just got to keep getting better to get to higher and higher up in class rank.”

Winter guard’s next competition will take place at Chisholm Trail high school, on Friday, Feb. 23.
