Beginning their season with the Purple & Gold Final Wrestle-Offs Dual, the Timber Creek Wrestling team has started off with a solid team, on track to meet this season’s goals. With the majority of the season still coming ahead of them, the athletes have been continuously training, taking the season on as one second at a time rather than as a whole.

“Currently, We have quite a few solid athletes on the team,” stated Coach Jayson Congar. “Starting with the Ladies: Bianca Rosales is a state runner-up from 2017, Jude Miller and Rachael Ingram are returning regional qualifiers that will help lead this girls line-up. The Rodriguez twins will be the ignitor for these girls this year. If they start off well, the girls will feed off that energy and have good days. For the boys, returning state qualifier Zachary Grimes will be looking to win a state title in his senior campaign. James Jesuroga, Will Caillet, Tommy Dalzell, Will Burch, and freshman Patrick Procopio will look to make some noise on the state level as well.”

With every wrestler expected to meet their individual goals specifically, these student-athletes have learned to practice one second at a time and get one percent better each day, hoping to peak in their individual performance at exactly the right time.

“In a match the outcome can change that quickly,” Congar said. “…I have found that every year presents new challenges that require different strategies and training styles. When each individual peaks at the right time the team will find success when it is desired. Nothing matters in wrestling until February, that is when Districts, Regionals, and State take place. I have been on the job for three and a half months and can’t speak of previous seasons, but this team has improved from my first day on the job.“
