Signing Day is undoubtedly the most exciting day of the year for high school athletes. This year, eight TCHS students signed Letters of Intent for their chosen colleges during a ceremony that took place on Nov. 11, 2015 in the main gym.

Four softball players—Matti Davis, Kylee Foster, Avery Grimes, and Caitlin Kneblik—and four baseball players—Brian Klien, Nic O’Brien, Anthony Orta, and Hunter Porter—signed their letters with parents and a crowd of family and friends ready to watch a truly life changing day for these students.

“I’ve just had a lot of good coaches over the years that helped me,” said TCHS baseball player Brian Klien, who signed for Texas Tech. “I truly believe this is God’s plan for me, and I’ve been working hard to give the glory back to him.”

“I’ve been playing softball since I was four, so this has been a long journey,” said Matti Davis, signing for Oakland University.

Coach Casillas, who had several students signing, was there to show his support.

“We’ve seen these kids, most of them since they were freshman,” Casillas said. “And having four kids now, that says a lot for our program.”

When asked if he had any advice for the seniors, he said, “Make sure you go to college, have fun, enjoy it, because it will go by so fast.”

But no one was more excited than the parents of the athletes. We caught up with Allen Porter, Hunter Porter’s father, and asked how he felt about the experience.

“It’s the future. It’s the future, it’s something to now look forward to beyond high school. In a way, it’s a culmination of a lot of hard work both in the classroom and out, and now, you’ve got the future in front of you. It’s the beginning of everything new.”

These students will start playing for their colleges next fall, all on athletic scholarships.
