Timber Creek’s track team have been working hard for the upcoming season that starts Thursday.

The practice meet and time trials are hosted at the Timber Creek track, on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The team’s first official meet is scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to around 4 p.m. at Chisholm Trail High School.

Though the team is excited, they are also nervous.

“I think the track team has such a close bond this year, it will help us achieve more as a whole than last year,” says Savannah Martin, a senior who has been running with TCHS track since her freshman year. “I’m excited to see how the team does and I have no doubt that we can achieve our goals.”

Martin’s teammate, Jasmine Cabrera, says something similar: “I think that our girls team has worked so hard this year and we will prove it at the meets.”

The real pressure won’t be at the meets between now and district, but district itself in April.

“I think that at our district meet, if we all work as a team and help each other, we will do the same thing we did last year—become district champions,” Cabrera adds, referring back to last years district meet when both JV and varsity girls placed first overall.

Not only have the athletes been working hard, the coaches have as well. They carefully sit down and plan out each and every event that would be specifically fit for each runner on the team.

“I think the coaches have really helped us overcome our fears of never wanting to be in the first group [the fastest] during practice,” Cabrera says, “every workout is a competition.”

With days counting down and workouts get more and more difficult, the athletes are excited to begin competing.
